Tuckpointing
Tuckpointing is a method developed in 18th century England to display the two contrasting colours of mortar used in brick or stone work. The first colour matches the brick or stonework itself (this layer is often called the "pointing"). The second colour is a thin line framing each individual brick or stone (this layer is referred to as the "tuck", and sits proud of the brick or stonework.
The overall effect of tuckpointing accentuates the brick or stonework and leaves a clean restored product that you and your family can enjoy for years to come.
Repointing
Repointing refers to the mortar in-between the brick or stonework. The original mortar usually lasts typically between 25 to 50 years depending on the exposure to the elements (wind, rain and sunlight), whereas the bricks and stone last much longer.

Due to the discrepancies between the two, repointing is a common maintenance practice over the life of brick and stone masonry. One of the main benefits of repointing is to improve water penetration resistance as well as providing a cleaner more finished look to the masonry.
Brick Staining
Federation Restoration also provides the service of brick staining and/or washing.
Brick washing enables our company to cover any paint or discolouration of the brickwork.
Firstly by removing any paint and then applying our brick-wash over the masonry to leave a clean finish.
Once finished your brickwork will be restored to its traditional appearance.

Federation Restoration is a family-run operation between Paul Tregillgas and his son Vince Tregillgas.
Paul has been in the masonry game for more than 4 decades, first completing his licence at Randwick Technical college in 1978, top of his class in bricklaying. After working around Sydney for the best builders and projects, and always having a passion for heritage, Paul moved onto the more artisan skill of Tuckpointing.
Federation Restoration has been an industry leader in tuckpointing for over 30 years in the Sydney region and has always been considered one of the most respected companies during that time, having completed 150+ jobs. Almost all of our work has come through client referrals. Paul and Vince do not only quote all of the work but we complete the jobs ourselves, this guarantees that the quality of work is of the highest standard and is something we pride ourselves on.
